Prof. Juhua Luo
Hysterectomy is associated with increased risk for adverse health outcomes. However, its association with the risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) remains unclear. The Women’s Health Initiative included 141,621 postmenopausal women who at inclusion self-reported history of hysterectomy and oophorectomy. During average 17.2 years follow-up, incident NHL was diagnosed in 1719 participant. Hysterectomy was associated with increased risk of NHL (HR 1.23; 95% CI 1.05-1.44), most notably among women who never had used hormone therapy (1.35; 1.06-1.71) and those who had ondergone hysterectomy before age 55 years. The authors conclude that the analysis shows that hysterectomy was a risk factor for NHL.
