Multimodal treatment of peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer (CRC-PM) includes cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in selected patients. A retrospective trial at 13 centers in Italy investigated the role of systemic chemotherapy in 367 patients treated with CRS-HIPEC for CRC-PM. In propensity-score weighted analysis, addition of systemic chemotherapy before and/or after CRS-HIPEC was not associated with improvement of overall survival (p=0.56), disease-free survival (p=0.50), or peritoneal disease-free survival (p=0.17).
