Frailty leads to increased vulnerability to otherwise innocuous stressors. Analysis of the Nationwide Inpatient Sample database found that among patients undergoing surgery for craniopharyngioma, increased Hospital Frailty Risk Score was predictive of complications, increased length of stay, increased hospital costs, and non-home discharge. The score did not independently predict mortality, because the incidence of mortality in this population was too low to analyze.
