Two prospective studies of mifamurtide for nonmetastatic high-grade osteosarcoma
Dr. Emanuela Palmerini
Mifamurtide is a nonspecific immunomodulator binding to the extracellular Toll-like receptor-4, activating monocytes and macrophages. Two prospective studies (in Italy and Spain) evaluated addition of postoperative mifamurtide to chemotherapy for nonmetastatic high-grade osteosarcoma with poor prognosis due to ABCB1/P-glycoprotein (Pgp)-positivity. Merged analysis of the two studies found that addition of mifamurtide was associated with improved event-free survival and overall survival.
