Programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1) inhibitors have been proved to be feasible and effective in multiple types of cancer, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but few studies have evaluated the efficacy of PD-1 inhibitors as neoadjuvant therapy with long-term follow-up. A phase 1b study in Beijing evaluated neoadjuvant sintilimab for NSCLC. With a mean follow-up of 37.8 months, the 3-year OS rate was 88.5% and the 3-year DFS rate was 75.0% among patients who underwent R0 resection. In patients with positive PD-L1 expression 3-year OS and DFS rates were 95.5% and 81.8%, respectively. The authors conclude that neoadjuvant sintilimab for NSCLC was effective and safe.
