Systematic review and pooled analysis of studies of postoperative stereotactic radiosurgery for intracranial solitary fibrous tumors
Dr. Amir Dehdashti
Intracranial solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare, aggressive dural-based mesenchymal tumors. Pooled analysis of published trials evaluated postoperative stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for intracranial SFTs. The authors identified 15 studies describing 293 patients harboring 476 intracranial residual or recurrent SFTs treated with postoperative SRS. The overall local tumor control rate was 69.3%. When studies were stratified by margin dose, a mean margin dose higher than 15 Gy was associated with improved local tumor control rate (74.7% versus 65.7%). The authors conclude that SRS is a safe and effective treatment for intracranial SFTs.
