Systematic review and meta-analysis of risk of digestive system cancer in patients with autoimmune diseases
Dr. Dennis Freuer
Sytematic review and meta-analysis of 47 studies with over 1.5 million cases evaluated the risk of digestive system cancer in patients with autoimmune diseases. Celiac disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, and type 1 diabetes were positively associated with pancreatic, esophageal, colon, liver, and hepatobiliary cancers. Additionally, type 1 diabetes was positively associated with stomac and colorectal cancers. The strongest bias-corrected association was found between celiac disease and small intestine cancer (RR 4.19; 95% CE 2,71-6,50). Multiple sclerosis was inversely associated with pancreatic, esophageal, and colorectal cancers.
