Survival with adjuvant chemotherapy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and gastrectomy for locally advanced gastric cancer
Prof. Chang-Ming Huang
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is a standard treatment option for locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). The indications for adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) after NAC and gastrectomy for LAGC are controversial. A study in two centers in China with validation in the USA and Italy compared survival rates between LAGC patients who received AC after NAC and gastrectomy and those who did not receive AC. The study found that both in China and in the USA and Italy AC was associated with longer survival
in patients with lymph node ratio of 9% or greater, but not in patients with lymph node ratio less than 9%.
