Survival impact of delaying surgery after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with colorectal peritoneal metastasis
Prof. Olivier Glehen
Multimodal treatment for patients with peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer, including perioperative chemotherapy plus complete resection, is associated with prolonged survival. The oncologic impact of therapeutic delays is unknown. Retrospective analysis of the French BIG-RENAPE network database found that among patients undergoing complete cytoreductive surgery with perioperative chemotherapy for synchronous peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer, a period of more than 6 weeks between neoadjuvant chemotherapy and surgery was independently associated with worse overall survival (median OS 63 versus 32.9 months; p=0.032).
