Survival after HIPEC with primary or interval CRS in ovarian cancer
Dr. Sang-Yoon Park
Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate among gynecologic malignant tumors. Data are lacking on the survival benefit of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in women with ovarian cancer who underwent primary or interval cytoreductive surgery (CRS). A randomized study in South Korea found that addition of HIPEC to CRS did not improve progression-free and overall survival in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. However, in the subgroup of patients who received interval CRS
after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, addition of HIPEC was associated with improved outcomes.
