Single-center randomized phase 2 trial of neoadjuvant ipilimumab and nivolumab for resectable cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma

The randomized phase 2 MATISSE trial at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (Amsterdam) found favorable outcomes with neoadjuvant nivolumab or nivolumab plus ipilimumab before surgery with or without radiotherapy for stage I-IVa cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Among ten patients declining surgery and radiotherapy, nine reached durable organ preservation and a clinical complete remission after nivolumab and ipilimumab alone, accompanied by a 2- year disease-specific survival of 100% and favorable health-related quality of life (visual abstract).
