Malignant glioma is a fatal disease with a poor prognosis. A prospective cohort study at Polenov Russian Neurosurgical Institute (St. Petersburg) evaluated autologous dendritic cell therapy for glioblastoma. The study included 91 patients receiving surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, while 41 of these patients also underwent dendritic cell therapy. The median relapse-free survival was 13.8 months (95% CI 1-20) in the dendritic cell therapy group versus 7.9 months (1-12) in the control group, while the median overall survival was 21.7 months (4-37) in the dendritic cell therapy group versus 15.8 months (3-22) in the control group. The authors conclude that among glioblastoma patient, addition of autologous dendritic cell therapy to standard therapy was associated with improved survival outcomes.
