Single center phase 2 trial of bevacizumab plus erlotinib for hereditary and sporadic papillary renal-cell carcinoma
Dr. Ramaprasad Srinivasan
A phase 2 study at the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, MD) evaluated the combination of bevacizumab and erlotinib for advanced HLRCC-associated and sporadic papillary renal-cell carcinoma (pRCC). Among the patients with HLRCC-associated pRCC, the overall response rate
was 72%, with median progression-free survival 21.1 months and median overall survival 44.6 months. Among the patients with sporadic pRCC, the ORR was 35%, with median PFS 8.9 months and median OS 18.2 months. Toxic effects were those known to be associated with the combination of bevacizumab and erlotinib. The authors conclude that the combination showed antitumor activity in patients with advanced HLRCC-associated or sporadic pRCC.
