Second primary cancer among colorectal cancer survivors in Germany
Prof. Stefanie Klug
With improvements in survival after colorectal cancer (CRC), more survivors are at risk of developing a second primary cancer (SPC). Analysis of data in nine German cancer registers evaluated SPC risk among 217,202 CRC survivors. The analysis revealed a significant excess risk of SPCs among CRC survivors, especially among younger survivors (CRC diagnosis before age 50 years). SPC was associated with primary CRC-related characteristics, including tumor size and location, and with treatment modality (visual abstract).
