Salvage resection plus cesium-131 brachytherapy for post-SRS recurrent brain metastases
Dr. Nelson Moss
Salvage of recurrent previously irradiated brain metastases is a significant challenge. Resection without adjuvant reirradiation is associated with a high local failure rate, while reirradiation only partially reduces failure but is associated with greater radiation necrosis risk. A study at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York, NY) found that salvage resection plus cesium-131 brachytherapy for post-SRS recurrent brain metastases was associated with good local control and toxicity profile. The clinical outcomes were favorable.
