Risk of colorectal cancer associated with lifetime excess weight

Prof. Hermann Brenner
Prof. Hermann Brenner

Excess weight is associated with increased cancer risk, but the risk may have been underestimated, as previous studies did not consider cumulative lifetime exposure. In a population-based case-control study in Germany the association of excess weight with CRC risk was assessed using a measure reflecting cumulative lifetime exposure to excess weight, defined as th weighted number of years lived with overweight or obesity. Lifetime exposure to excess weight showed a stronger association with CRC risk than excess weight measured at any single point of time.
