Greater understanding of international cancer survival differences is needed. A population-based study by the International Cancer Benchmarking Partnership investigated predictors and consequences of cancer diagnosis through emergency presentation (within 30 days after presentation) in 14 jurisdictions in six countries. Pancreatic cancer had the highest percentage of emergency presentation on average overall while rectal cancer had the lowest percentage of emergency presentation. Older age and advanced stage were consistently associated with increased emergency presentation risk. Emergency presenters consistently had greater risk of 12-month mortality than non-emergeny presenters.
