Immune competence varies across cancer types and treatments, which may result in disparate responses to COVID-19 vaccines. Analysis by the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) Consortium provided real-world evidence that patients with cancer, especially hematologic malignancies, compared with patients without malignancies are at higher risk for developing breakthrough infections after receiving mRNA vaccination for COVID-19. Fully vaccinated patients are at markedly decreased risk for breakthrough infections.
