The Molecular Tumor Board (MTB) is an important tool for the selection of molecular targeted agents, but its clinical utility is not comfirmed in real-world practice. A retrospective study at the Isituto Nazionale dei Tumor (Milan, Italy) compared real-world outcomes of patients treated according to MTB recommendations (group A), patients eligible for such treatment but receiving other treatments (group B), or patients without a MTB recommendation (group C). Among 1270 patients with metastatic disease, real-world overall survival was not reached in group A, was 17.7 months in group B (versus A: HR 1.76; p=0.002), and was 20.5 months in group C (versus A: HR 1.42; p=0.035). The authors conclude that efforts should be pursued to offer MTB-recommended therapies.
