Retrospective study of incidence and survival of peritoneal metastases from gastric cancer in The Netherlands
Dr. Felice van Erning
A nationwide, retrospective study in The Netherlands found that among 2206 patients with a diagnosis of gastric cancer in 2015-2016, 741 patients (34%) were diagnosed with peritoneal metastases, either at primary diagnosis (n=498) or during 3 year follow-up after potential curative treatment (n=243). Diffuse type histology was a factor associated with peritoneal metastasis. Median overall survival was comparable between synchronous and metachronous peritoneal metastasis (3.2 versus 2.3 months; p=0.731).
