Retrospective study of impact of frailty on survival of patients with newly diagnosed IDH-wildtype supratentorial glioblastoma

A retrospective study at Université Paris Cité (France) evaluated the impact of pretreatment frailty on survival of patients receiving standard chemoradiotherapy for newly diagnosed IDH-wildtype supratentorial glioblastoma. Frailty was measured using the modified 5-item frailty index (5-mFI). The median overall survival was 14.3 months in the group of non-frail patients (5-mFI score <2) versus 4.7 months in the group of frail patients. In multivariable analysis, 5-mFI score ≥2 was an independent predictor of shorter overall survival (aHR 1.31; p=0.009), while age ≤ 60 years, KPS score ≥ 70, unilateral location, total removal, and standard chemoradiotherapy protocol were independent predictors of longer overall survival. The authors conclude that among patients receiving chemoradiotherapy for newly diagnosed IDH-wildtype supratentorial glioblastoma, pretreatment frailty was associated with shorter overall survival.
