Retrospective study of combination therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors and denosumab in non-small lung cancer with bone metastases

The concomitant use of denosumab (D) and immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) may have synergistic activity among patients with NSCLC with bone metastases. A retrospective trial at Kanazawa University (Japan) compared outcomes of concomitant D+ICI versus ICI alone in these patients. The D+ICI group had significantly better response rate, disease control rate, median progression-free survival, and median overall survival, without increased incidence of immune-related adverse events. Patients receiving concomitant D + ICI for more than four months had significantly better response rate, median progression-free survival, and median overall survival than patients receiving concomitant D + ICI for less than four months. The authors conclude that, among patients with bone metastases from NSCLC, addition of D to ICI significantly improved oncological outcomes without increased incidence of irAEs.
