Retrospective cohort study of nicotinamide for skin cancer prevention

Nicotinamide supplementation has been studied as a chemopreventive medication for reducing skin cancer risk, but large-scale data are limited. A retrospective cohort study using the Veterans Affairs Corporate Data Warehouse (33,822 veterans) found a decreased risk of 3 types of skin cancer associated with the use of nicotinamide. The magnitude of reduction was associated with the number of skin cancer before nicotinamide use. The authors conclude that the results of this study suggest that use of nicotinamide is associated with reduced risk of skin cancer development.
