Retrospective cohort study of grade group 1 prostate cancer outcome by biopsy grade and risk group
Dr. Bashir Al Hussein Al Awamih
Grade group 1 (GG1) prostate cancer detected on biopsy is generally considered to have an indolent course. However, the frequency with which GG1 prostate cancer on biopsy is associated with adverse clinical features and long-term cancer outcomes are poorly defined. In a contemporary population-based cohort study of 299,746 men, almost 1 in 6 men with GG1 prostate cancer had non-low-risk cancer. These men with GG1 prostate cancer had significantly higher rates of adverse pathology at surgery and prostate cancer-specific mortality than those with low-risk prostate cancer. The authors conclude that GG1 cancer-specific outcomes are heterogeneous, and men with nonlow risk may have worse oncologic outcomes compared with men who have low risk.
