Retrospective cohort analysis of body mass index, physical activity, and subsequent neoplasm risk among childhood cancer survivors
Dr. Lenat Joffe
High body mass index and low physical activity levels are risk factors for adult-onset cancers. Limited data exist on their relationship with subsequent neoplasms among childhood cancer survirors. A retrospective cohort analysis of 22,716 five-year childhood cancer survivors, found that obesity was significantly associated with both benign and malignant subsequent neoplasm types, while physical activity demonstrated a significant protective assocation with subsequent neoplasms. The authors conclude that healthy body mass index and physical activity may mitigate long-term subsequent neoplasm risk among childhood cancer survivors.
