Retrospective analysis of trends in cancer incidence and mortality among adults aged 35-69 years in the UK, 1993-2018

A retrospective analysis in the UK investigated trends in cancer incidence and mortality among adults aged 35 to 69 years from 1993 to 2018. The number of cancer cases rose by 57% for men and by 48% for women, while the number of cancer deaths decreased by 20% in men and by 17% in women. The age-standardized incidence of cancers increased by 0.8% annually in both sexes, while the age-standardized cancer mortality decreased by 2.0% per year among men and by 1.6% per year among women. The largest decreases in mortality were noted for stomach, mesothelioma, and bladder cancers in men, and stomach and cervical cancers and non-Hodgkin lymphoma in women. The authors conclude that cancer mortality had a substantial reduction from 1993 to 2018 among both men and women aged 35 to 69 years.
