Retrospective analysis of docetaxel-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy and en bloc resection of esophageal adenocarcinoma

Real-world, long-term survival outcomes of neoadjuvant, docetaxel-based therapy for esophageal and junctional adenocarcinoma are lacking. A retrospective cohort analysis of a prospectively maintained database in Quebec, Canada, evaluated long-term outcomes with either neoadjuvant DCFx3 (docetaxel, cisplatin, 5FU) or neoadjuvant FLOTx4 (5FU, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, docetaxel), both followed by en bloc resection for locally advanced esophageal adenocarcinoma. The median overall survival was similar between the groups (FLOT 97.3 months versus DCF 92.2 months; p=0.420). The authors conclude that both neoadjuvant DCF followed by en bloc resection and neoadjuvant FLOT followed by en bloc resection are highly effective regimens for locally advanced esophageal adenocarcinoma.
