Reduced-dose and reduced-volume radiotherapy with chemotherapy for medulloblastoma in children
Prof. Jeff Michalski
The Children’s Oncology Group phase III ACNS0331 trial evaluated reduced-dose and reduced-volume craniospinal irradiation with chemotherapy for newly diagnosed average-risk medulloblastoma. Reducing the radiation boost volume (involved field versus posterior fossa) was safe and did not compromise five-year event-free survival rate. Reducing CSI dose (18.0 Gy versus 23.4 Gy) resulted in inferior five-year EFS but was associated with better neurocognitive outcome.
