Nivolumab plus ipilimumab is a first-in-class combination immunotherapy for intermediate- or poor (I/P)-risk advanced or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). There are limited real-world data regarding clinical effectiveness beyond 12-24 months from treatment initiation. Retrospective analysis of The US Oncology Network found that among 187 patients (median follow-up, 22.4 months), the median overall survival was 38.4 months (95% CI 24.7-46.1) and the median real-world progression-free survival was 11.1 months (7.5-15.0). Among 86 patients starting second-line therapy, 54.7% received cabozantinib. Treatment-related adverse events were reported in 47.6% of patients. The authors conclude that this analysis provides data to support the understanding of the long-term effectiveness of first-line nivolumab plus ipilimumab for I/P-risk mCC.
