Real time remote symptom monitoring during chemotherapy for cancer

The multinational randomized controlled eSMART trial evaluated remote monitoring of adjuvant chemotherapy related side effects via the Advanced Symptom Management System (ASyMS). Patients receiving first-line adjuvant chemotherapy for non-metastatic breast cancer, colorectal cancer, Hodgkin’s disease, or non-Hodgkin lymphoma were randomized to ASyMS or standard care. In the ASyMS group, symptom burden remained at pre-chemotherapy levels, whereas controls reported an increase from cycle 1 onwards.
