Randomized trial of the optimal duration of androgen deprivation therapy with postoperative radiotherapy for prostate cancer

There is good evidence for the use of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with primary radiotherapy (RT) as initial treatment for prostate cancer. However, there is uncertainty about the role and duration of ADT with RT after radical prostatectomy (RP). The multinational randomized RADICALS-HD study found that in patients receiving RT after RP, 24 months of ADT versus 6 months of ADT improved both time to salvage ADT and metastasis-free survival. In contrast, 6 months of ADT versus no ADT improved time to salvage ADT but did not improve metastasis-free survival.
