Randomized trial of electronic patient-reported outcomes and vital sign monitoring during T-DXd therapy for metastatic breast cancer

Patients receiving trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (mBC) may experience specific adverse events affecting the quality of life. The PRO-DUCE trial, at 38 centers in Japan randomized patients receiving T-DXd for HER2-positive mBC to electronic patient-reported outcomes and vital signs monitoring (n=56) or usual care (n=55). In the monitoring group, the QOL scores at 24 weeks were higher compared with usual care, with significant improvements in global health status and functional domains. No significant differences were observed in survival outcomes. The authors conclude that incorporating a comprehensive monitoring strategy into clinical practice may help maintain QOL among patients receiving T-DXd for HER2-positive mBC.
