Prof. David Curtis

The randomized BM12 CAST study by the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group compared GVHD-prophylaxis with cyclophosphamide and cyclosporin (‘experimental prophylaxis’) versus cyclosporin and methotrexate (‘standard profylaxis’) among patients with blood cancers after transplantation from a matched related donor with either reduced-intensity of myeloablative conditioning. The GVHD-free, relapse-free survival was significantly longer with experimental profylaxis than with standard prophylaxis.
