The development of more potent selective estrogen receptor antagonists and degraders (SERDs) that can be orally administered could help address the limitations of current endocrine therapies. The multinational phase 2 coopERA Breast Cancer study found that among patients with ER-positive, HER2-negative early breast cancer, the non-steroidal oral SERD giresdestrant offered encouraging anti-proliferative and anti-tumor activity and was well tolerated, both as single agent and in combination with palbociclib.
