A randomized phase 2 trial at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX) compared neoadjuvant durvalumab (anti-PD-L1) versus durvalumab plus tremelimumab (anti-CTLA-4) followed by surgery in patients with resectable malignant pleural mesothelioma. Neoadjuvant durvalumab plus tremelimumab resulted in de novo systemic immune responses that extend to the tumor microenvironment and correlated with favorable clinical outcomes (median overall survival not reached versus 14.0 months with durvalumab monotherapy.
