Randomized phase 2 trial of anlotinib versus placebo for locally advanced or metastatic radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid carcinoma
There is an unmet need for novel therapies for patients with radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid carcinoma (RAIR-DTC). A randomized phase 2 trial in China compared anlotinib versus placebo for locally advanced or metastatic RAIR-DTC. The study met its primary endpoint of progression-free survival, while overall survival data still were immature but showed a trend of better OS with anlotinib compared with placebo. All anlotinib patients experienced adverse events, leading to discontinuation in 10.5% of patients. The authors conclude that anlotinib had promising activity and acceptable tolerability among patients with locally advanced or metastatic RAIR-DTC.
