Randomized phase 2 trial of adjuvant icotinib versus observation after complete resection of EGFR-mutated stage IB NSCLC

The randomized phase 2 GASTO1003 trial at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (Guangzhou, China) compared icotinib versus observation after complete resection of EGFR-mutated stage IB non-small cell lung cancer. The icotinib group had significantly longer disease-free survival as well as CNS disease-free survival than the observation group. Grade 3 or higher adverse events occurred in 6.3% of the patients in the icotinib group. The authors conclude that these results could directly improve clinical practice.
