Randomized phase 2 study of olaparib versus placebo added to abiraterone for mCRPC: patient-reported outcomes
Prof. Fred Saad
A multinational randomized phase 2 trial evaluated addition of olaparib or placebo to abiraterone for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Primary results of the trial, published in 2018, showed an improved radiographic progression-free survival in the olaparib-abiraterone group compared with the placebo-abiraterone group. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) of the trial have now been published. There was no significant difference in pain or HRQOL between the groups. The authors conclude that the improved survival benefits observed when combining olaparib with abiraterone do not come at the cost of worse PROs.
