Preclinical data suggest that metformin may suppress tumor growth in NSCLC models. The Canadian randomized phase 2 OCOG-ALMERA trial evaluated addition of metformin to chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced NSCLC in patients without diabetes. Addition of metformin was associated with worse treatment efficacy and increased toxic effects
