Randomized controlled trial of effect of personalized risk messages on uptake of colorectal cancer screening
Prof. Thomas Imperiale
A randomized controlled trial (2 x2 factorial design) at Indiana University (Indanapolis) evaluated the effect of providing information on patient risk for advanced colorectal neoplasia to patients and their primary care providers on uptake of colorectal cancer screening. The study found no differences in CRC screening uptake for both the personalized provider and patients messages. The authors conclude that these findings add to current knowledge around risk messages and CRC screening and require confirmation and extension in subsequent studies, with potential to improve the uptake, effectiveness, and efficiency of CRC screening.
