Despite the availability of effective interventions, fear of cancer recurrence remains a prevalent concern among cancer survivors. A randomized clinical trial at the University of Southern Denmark (Odense) evaluated a 10-week therapist-guided e-health intervention among 95 colorectal cancer survivors, 5 to 10 years postdiagnosis, with clinically significant fear of cancer recurrence, as determined by the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory (FCRI). The mean FCRI score decreased significantly in the intervention group but not in the control group, representing a significant between-group difference. The authors conclude that these findings suggest that the therapist-guided e-health intervention can significantly reduce fear of cancer recurrence among long-term colorectal cancer survivors (visual abstract).
