Quality of life after stereotactic radiosurgery for brain metastasis

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is frequently used in the management of brain metastasis patients. The impact of SRS on long-term quality of life of these patients is largely unknown. The NeuroPoint Alliance Quality Registry for Stereotactic Radiosurgery is a multicenter collaboration in the US prospectively collecting information from patients undergoing SRS since 2017. EQ-5D analysis of 525 patients who underwent SRS for BMs from lung cancer, breast cancer, and melanoma, found that at final follow-up, 34.0% of patients had improved EQ-5D scores compared with baseline, while 16.2% had stable scores, 35.9% had worse scores, and 13.9% had mixed responses across the EQ-%D indices. Baseline EQ-5D scores were predictive for EQ-5D scores at the final follow-up. The authors conclude that most patients undergoing SRS for BMs had improvement or no change in long-term quality of life.
