Prospective study of germline BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants in unselected South Korean patients with HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer
Prof. Yeon Hee Park
The nationwide prospective KCSG BR19-10 study in South Korea investigated the prevalence of gBRCA1/2 pathogenic variant (PV) carriers among unselected patients with HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer (mBC). Among 570 patients, the overall prevalence of gBRCA1/2 PV carriers was 7.4% (95% CI 5.4-9.8). Among patients with HER2-negative mBC and a low risk of hereditary breast ovarian cancer syndrome, the overall prevalence of gBRCA1/2 PV carriers was 5.7% (95% CI 3.5-8.8). The authors conclude that these results support screening for gBRCA1/2 PVs to identify candidates for PARP inhibitor therapy.
