Prospective study of association of cardiorespiratory fitness with incidence and mortality of colon, lung, and prostate cancer among Swedish men
Dr. Elin Ekblom-Bak
A prospective study in Sweden examined the association of cardiorespiratoy fitness (CRF) and incidence and disease-specific mortality of colon, lung and prostate cancer among men. The study included 177,709 men with CRF assessed as maximal oxygen consumption using a submaximal cycle ergometer test. The mean follow-up was 9.6 years. Higher CRF was associated
with lower colon cancer incidence and lower risk of death from lung and prostate cancer. The authors conclude that CRF may have a potentially important role in reducing the risk of developing and dying from certain cancers in men.
