Prospective cohort study of screen-detected breast cancer outcomes by mammography participation in immediate past screening
Prof. Kamila Czene
A prospective cohort study in Sweden investigated outcomes of screen-detected breast cancer (SDBC) by mammography participation in immediate past screening. In this study of 8602 participants, women who did not participate in the immediate past screening round before the diagnostic round had worse tumor characteristics and poorer breast cancer-specific survival and distant metastasis-free survival during the next 20 years. The authors conclude that advancing the next invitation date for women who miss a screening may improve breast cancer outcomes.
