Prospective cohort study of cancer surveillance as an alternative to prophylactic total gastrectomy in heritary diffuse gastric cancer
Dr. Jeremy Davis
Loss of function variants in CDH1 are the most frequent cause of hereditary diffuse gastric cancer. A prospective cohort study at the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, MD) evaluated endoscopy surveillance for cancer interception in individuals with germline CDH1
variants who declined prophylactic total gastrectomy. The authors conclude that endoscopic cancer surveillance was an acceptable alternative to surgery in these individuals.
