In the prospective UK Biobank cohort study (470,771 participants aged 37-73 years at inclusion between 2006 and 2010) 32,315 incident cancers were identified during 10.5 ± 2.2 years of follow-up. Some differences in cancer risk between the sexes attenuated to the null in multivariable-adjusted models, but men remained at greater risk than women for cancers at eight sites, and lower risk than women for cancers at four sites. The authors conclude that further research on these sex differences in risk may provide insights into cancer etiology.
