Prophylactic cranial irradiation with or without hippocampal avoidance for small-cell lung cancer
Dr. Núria Rodríguez de Dios
The Spanish multicenter phase 3 PREMER trial evaluated prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) with or without hippocampal avoidance (HA) for small-cell lung cancer. The study found that sparing the hippocampus during PCI better preserved cognitive function in patients with SCLC. No differences between the HA-PCI group and the PCI group were observed with regard to brain failure, overall survival, and quality of life.
