Low-dose dasatinib is safe and effective in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase (CML-CP). No randomized trials have compared the outcome with standard-dose dasatinib (100 mg/day). A study at MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX) included patients with newly diagnosed CML-CP treated with frontline dasatinib 50 mg/day and patients treated with frontline dasatinib 100 mg/day. Propensity score analysis of 77 patients in each cohort without significant baseline differences found that the lower dose was at least as effective as the standard dose, with a better safety profile and drug exposure.
