Prognostic value of lymphovascular invasion and perineural invasion in stage III colon cancer
Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) and perineural invasion (PNI) are associated with poor survival outcomes in colorectal cancer, but few studies have focussed on stage III colon cancer (CC). A retrospective study at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (Guangzhou, China) investigated the prognostic value of LVI and PNI in stage III CC. The figure shows
that LVI was prognostic for disease-free survival and overall survival, while PNI was prognostic for disease-free survival. Within the LVI-positive group patients completing 6-8 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy had better DFS and OS compared with patients completing less than 6 cycles.
